Painful Melody

Poem By Holly Ann Kasper
5/31/20

There is pain… so much… it’s always there;
And tempting is it’s scent
to draw us from the moment.

I won’t be sucked in
Or not consumed;
Like a puzzle piece that no longer fits.

I realize the lessons I am blessed with
When I don’t run;
When I face it;
When I sit with humaneness;
in my thoughts;
In the circumstances;
And draw into where I seek to understand.

It is there,
and only there,
that love can show it’s beautiful face.
It’s in that curious space,
Where I hold the good and the evil
at a distance;
Without judgement…
just to observe
so gently.

It is in this place
where what divides one soul
From another
Is fully exposed.

It’s a figment of our united imagination…
Upholding our divided ideas
with the intricate web of stories;
Webs of lies…
Or truths
To all that get stuck in it’s sticky, sparkly, intricate, mysterious,
disguised, strewn threads.

Seemingly delicate.
Surprisingly strong.

When we struggle it grips tighter still.

We are not different deep inside;
Simply experiencing this world uniquely.

It is due,
What we see;
What we hear;
What we determine to be true.

It is true then only
That the story that ensnares us
Can also be our healer.

No story will be taken,
But it can be unpacked.
Our thoughts guide the pen,
And our hearts gently nudge.

If enough of us can decide
To write a story together…
A new one if you will…
One to sing in unison…

Then,
Though our journeys paint different pictures,
Our song will give grace.

Our harmony will create a new melody;
One that meets us all where we are,
One that is so strong,
The webs are broken;
The lies crack;
The trap becomes a beautiful reminder.

To come as we are,
Nothing more
Nothing less.
To love as we are,
Inward, outward, just as we breathe.
To join in this pursuit of understanding the mystical beauty that often surrounds us amidst the most unintended circumstances.

Amidst pain and grief and sorrow
We find grace and passion and lessons
so deep,
We feel like we never stop diving.
