Box

Poem by Holly Ann Kasper
3/15/2020

Here’s our pretty little box
            to hold our pretty little thoughts…
OR what if not so much?..
            …what if we filled it to the brim,
                        with REAL thoughts & prayers within?
            With our messy, ugly tears;
            and our deepest darkest fears;
Not so pretty;
            not so little;
                        not so trapped.

Because this real imperfect world,
            needs more real imperfect love;
            to come together in new ways,
            in these strange and trying days.

Instead of packing all away,
            the overwhelming fears;
Instead of waiting now to pray,
            while we hide from all our tears…

What if we open wide,
            and we refuse to hide;
                        Can we maybe start to heal it,
                        because we maybe start to feel it;
                                    even when it’s
                                                still so blurry?
We can ask and we can pray.
            We can rest and wrestle still…
                        Yet not hurry;
                                    Disarm the worry,
                                    while we settle deep inside.
